# Membrane-Stiffening Triggers

**Overstimulation and High Volatility:** Rapid cuts and constant stimulation trigger emotional shutdown as protective response. Lack of rhythmic "breathing room" prevents entrainment.

**Prolonged Dissonance:** Unresolved tension without periodic consonance creates aversion and resistance. The nervous system requires resolution cycles to maintain openness.

**Modal Incoherence:** Mixed signals between visual, auditory, and narrative elements disrupt affective priming and trigger cognitive skepticism.

**Perceived Manipulation:** When audiences become consciously aware of emotional engineering, they often activate defensive responses that close receptivity.
