# The Facebook Emotional Contagion Study

The 2014 Facebook experiment demonstrated digital transmission of emotional states without direct human contact:

* Algorithmic manipulation of news feed emotional content
* Measurable changes in users' posting behavior and emotional expression
* No communication required - emotional states transmitted through exposure patterns alone

**Cultural Physics Analysis:** This revealed that digital platforms can create artificial collective emotional fields through algorithmic curation of somatic triggers, bypassing conscious consent or awareness.
