# Limbic Processing and Emotional Tagging

**Amygdala Activation:** The amygdala flags anything salient or threatening within 100-300ms, before conscious processing. This creates "gut reactions" that precede rational evaluation. Even purely aesthetic features can trigger amygdala responses - angular shapes more than curved ones.

**Hippocampal Memory Tagging:** The hippocampus tags emotionally arousing moments for memory encoding. Aesthetic "chill" moments (goosebumps, tears) coincide with neurochemical surges that tell the hippocampus "Remember this!" This is why powerful aesthetic moments become deeply embedded memories.

**Mirror Neuron Activation:** Mirror neurons fire both when we perform actions and when we observe others performing them. In media consumption, when an actor displays strong emotion, viewers' mirror systems can activate, causing unconscious mimicry and empathic resonance.
