# Contrast = Tension and Resolution

## Principle: Opposition creates energy and movement across all cultural forms.

**Mechanism**: Contrast is the engine of engagement across mediums. In music, dissonance creates the need for resolution. In visual design, contrasting elements create dynamic tension. In narratives, conflict drives story forward. In cultural movements, opposition generates energy and solidarity. The nervous system is designed to notice difference and respond to tension.

**Cultural Application:** Reading contrast reveals the dynamic tensions that fuel cultural movements. Where competing narratives create productive friction vs. destructive polarization. How cultural designers use opposition to generate energy and engagement. When tension serves evolution vs. when it creates fragmentation.
